Online Bingo Operators Unite to Fight
12th June, 2009

Both online bingo and land based bingo halls continue to appeal to a wider audience, with bingo becoming more popular with every day that passes.
It is then no surprise that bingo operators have come together in an effort to stop the government from going ahead with their proposed bingo tax increase.
According to government plans, bingo operators will be charged a further 7%, increasing the tax from 15- 22%.
Leading European gaming business, Rank Group along with Gala Bingo the Bingo Association, Castle Bingo and Mecca Bingo, who front the campaign, are just some of the organisations campaigning against the increase in bingo duty.
In May MP Edward Timpson stated his support to reversing the proposed tax after more than 100 Bingo players wrote to him asking for his help. At the time Mr Timpson said, “A tax raid on the pockets of these players will threaten their clubs.”
Should the tax increase go ahead, bingo would be the highest taxed gambling product in the UK, with bookmakers, football pools, and casino all paying 15%.
