Online Bingo site ITV Bingo shuts down
8th May, 2009
ITV Bingo closed its virtual doors for the last time on Sunday, to the shock of many. While many bingo fans have started to become accustomed to the closure of traditional bingo halls. The closure of an online bingo site has set alarm bells ringing.
However, online bingo fans will not have to worry, as the closure of ITV Bingo is an exception in the online industry, which is currently witnessing steady growth.
According to Bingo Hideout ITV sent the following email message to all its players:
“ITV Bingo is being withdrawn as a service on 3rd May 2009. We have very much appreciated having you as a player hope you have enjoyed the experience. You can continue to play until the service closes on 3rd May. After this date please proceed to cash out any remaining funds in your ITV Play Account as soon as possible, as we will be closing the accounts at the end of October 2009. Any unclaimed monies at that time will be donated to charity. Please note that any outstanding bonuses will expire at approximately 05:00 UK time on 1st May, 2009. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
ITV Bingo had been in partnership with Party Bingo, yet the partnership was dissolved once difficulties converting players from Bingo Night Live to ITV Bingo arose.
According to ITV and Party Bingo, Bingo Night Live had been a big success appealing to viewers and encouraging them to play online bingo, although they also found most viewers only played in free games, and did not become depositing players.
