Online Bookies Shorten odds on Andy Murray winning Wimbledon

The 2009 Wimbledon Championships moved into its second round of matches yesterday, and saw the likes of men’s singles favourite Roger Federer ease through to the third round.

It took just one hour and 29 minutes for the five time Wimbledon Champion to despatch his opponent, Guillermo Garica-Lopez, in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, 6-4.

Today will see second favourite for the men singles title, Andy Murray, in action against Ernests Gulbis on centre court. The British number one had a shaky start in his opening match but quickly regained his composure to win 7-5, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.

Murray is 1/12 favourite with Sporting Bet to win later today and has been shortened to 15/8 with Bet365 to win the competition.

However following the display of number one seed Roger Federer in his first and second rounds, most online bookies have also shortened odds on him to win his sixth Wimbledon title and 15th Grand Slam.

Blue Square, Coral and Paddy Power all price the Swiss at 8/13 to win, while Sporting Bet makes him 4/7 favourite to win the competition.
