Online Bookies Shorten Odds on England to win First Ashes Test
9th July, 2009
England’s cricketers got off to a great start yesterday in the 2009 Ashes Test Series, finishing the day on 336 for 7. Strong performances from Kevin Pieterson, Paul Collingwood and Matt Prior, have helped England to put early pressure on the Aussies.
Although with just the tail-enders left, Australia will be confident they can dismiss the rest of the English batting order relatively quickly.
Going into the test series, bookmakers priced England at 9/4 underdogs, with Australia at 11/8 favourites, however following yesterday’s performance from England some bookies have opted to shorten odds England.
Bet365 currently make England first test favourites at 7/4 and Australia underdogs at 11/4.
Despite bookies changing their odds, seasoned test cricket fans will know through experience that being the first day of the first test, “anything can happen between now and the end of day 5”.
Other in play bets that are also available during the first test is ‘Next Man Out’. Both Stan James and BetFred make James Anderson favourite to be the next English batsman out at 4/6 while Sporting Bet price Stuart Broad at 6/5 to be the next English batsman out.
