Online Bookies open odds on British and Irish Lions

With the British and Irish Lions due to depart for South Africa on Monday, bookies have opened markets on the forth-coming Lions tour.

Set to be a series of brutal battles, the tour will see 36 of the best players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales take on seven South African province’s and the World Champions themselves in three test matches.

Bookies make South Africa favourites to win the tour with both Paddy Power and Betfred putting the Springboks at 1/3 odds on, while the Lions are 9/4.

According to Lions captain Paul O'Connell, “We are big underdogs going into the test series, but I’m sure will be able to emulate the 1997 tour that beat the Bok’s”.

With Six games before the first test, The Lions will have plenty of time to get themselves prepared, although two months is a short time to bring together a team, especially one that will have to face the reigning world champions.

Paddy Power make it 13/8 that South Africa will win 3-0, and 11/8 that they will win 2-1, however Blue Square and Boyle Sport make it 11/4 for the Lion to cause an upset and win two games of the three.
