Online Bookies unhappy with suspicious betting

Online bookmakers, Blue Square and Williams Hill, have voiced concern and reported suspicious betting behaviour to the Football Association this week, after being inundated with a number of unusual bets.

Both Blue Square and William Hill decided to close the betting market on conference side Gray Athletics match against Forest Green Rovers at the weekend, after they received an high amount of bets on a specific outcome of the game.

Gray Athletic are now 19th in the conference table and sit just two places above the relegation zone. Saturday’s much needed win now puts them on level points with Forest Green Rovers, who are 18th.

According to a Blue Square spokesperson, they became suspicious after they received a large number of bets, stating that Grays Athletic would be trailing at half time, but to would win the game in the second half.

Another FA case is still ongoing regarding five players who were charged earlier this month breaching betting rules during a Coca Cola League Two match. If found guilty the players face serious sanctions, including suspensions.

Graham Sharpe, spokesperson for William Hill said, 'We closed our book and reported our actions to the relevant authorities. We have no intention of paying out, pending any potential enquiries which may be undertaken.'
