Online Casinos players are less at risk of Problem Gambling

Gambling can be a problem for many people but according to a social worker and compulsive gambling expert, online casinos are less likely than land based casinos to promote problem gambling.

With online casinos growing in player numbers even during the difficult economic climate, some have said this could be leading to a rise in problem gambling. However, Howard Slayton, a compulsive gambling expert, has said that players on an online casino are less likely to develop compulsive behavioural problems than their land based counterparts.

Howard Slayton said "Every detail at brick-and-mortar casinos is designed in minute detail to lure in players and trap them. Bells and whistles confuse while giving an otherworldly air to gambling floors, lending an illusion of escape to a colourful and inviting world. Clocks and windows are absent, preventing the sudden injection of reality they might generate."

According to Slayton, this is not the case when a person is playing online. When playing online, people are still very much aware of their environment, and can be interrupted at anytime by a number of things, such as a phone ringing, a knock at the door or a quick glance at the clock on the screen.

Slayton also said, "US Politicians think they are helping problem gamblers by denying access to online casinos, but the land venues they so happily support for revenue are doing far more damage than the Internet.”

All online gambling sites in the UK are highly regulated in order protect the young and vulnerable.
