Ladbrokes get the licence to launch their Italian poker site

It has become apparent to UK operators that Estonians love to gamble and their government is hoping the past time will help to pull the country out of recession.

Unlike other Eastern European countries, like Russia for example, Estonia is choosing to relax its gambling laws and by early next year international online gaming operators will play a key role in developing an online gambling market in the country.

As a result of this UK gambling operators are seeing Estonia as a potentially profitable market and are closely watching to see how things develop in the country. Currently, 1.5million Estonians attend 150 land based casinos in 12 different cities.

The Estonian government is hoping to stimulate the economy by offering online gambling in a two step process. Firstly, it will allow online gambling on a national level this year, then international from January 2011.

The latter stage will allow UK gambling groups to offer their online gaming service to Estonians.

The economy in the country is down a huge 36% and is doing all that they can to get the country back on track. This includes introducing the Euro which its hoping will bring more stability to the economy. Adopting online gambling will see millions of Euros enter the state purse annually.
