Online Gambling Whitelist Freeze

According to eGaming Review the Government is reviewing legislation around the UK Gambling act and are not granting white list status to any new applicants as part of the process.

White list status allows gaming operators to advertise in the UK. The freeze on applicants is due to bookies calling on the government to create a level playing field as competition against overseas operators is becoming unprofitable due to the lower level of tax they pay.

Representatives from the Department of Culture, media and Sport who are reviewing the situation confirmed the freeze on white list applicants however would not comment any further.

The review will address European legislative issues as many have not followed the UK’s lead allowing EU licensed operators to advertise and take bets in the country. For example France and Italy only allow operators that are licensed in the mainland to advertise and take bets thus not dodging tax.

The findings of the review will be sent to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport by the end of the year.
