Online Gambling defies Economic Downturn
21st April, 2009

It's been in the papers everyday for nearly a year now and we all know how bad the current economic climate is. Many industries have been hit hard by a cut back in consumer spending and increasing debt.
However other less published areas have continued to perform well, including online gambling. With the new fashion of staying in, increasing numbers are deciding to try out internet games which are cheap and easy to take part in.
Online bingo is one sector which has flourished in recent years, partly due to the introduction of social and community features on several leading sites. The New Labour government allowed for a well regulated industry which has ensured addiction and debt are avoided.
Across the pond in the US, an illegal internet gaming market exists forcing players to use unregulated sites. In the UK, gamers can be assured that the sites used are safe and secure.
So, even though the bankers weren't regulated at all, the bingo certainly was. This has allowed for a multi million pound industry to grow steadily, employing thousands and generating billions for the economey.
