Online Gambling in 2009
6th January, 2009
Christmas is over, the tree's and decorations are down and everyone is back to work. 2008 was the beginning of the global finical crisis and many high street retails have already fallen victims to the global credit crunch.
However the online gaming industry is one which is predicted to perform well through what will undoubtedly be, a tough year for businesses. The rise of online gambling has been there for all to see in recent years with online casino, sports betting, poker and bingo sites all growing in size and attracting more players every month.
So what does 2009 have in store? Well growth is expected to continue, but at a slower rate. The online industry has arguably been one of the fast growing sector in the UK over the past 5 years. However this growth is expected to slow down.
Mobile gaming is one area predicted to expand as new hand held devices are allowing users to download games and place bets. Several European countries are also deciding whether or not to allow online gambling to take place. Currently the Czech Republic government are considering allowing their own gaming firms to operator online.
At present, foreign sites are operating in the Czech Republic without any regulations. Tomas Bahnik from Fortuna Group told Radio Praha, “There is no legal restriction. So, basically they operate in this country illegally. So we want to have the same opportunities as foreign companies.”
2009 promises to be another exciting year for online gaming and I'm sure we will see several new and innovative industry projects!
