Online Gaming contributes to PC Gaming Market

The nonprofit corporation PC Gaming Alliance has released a new report regarding the PC gaming industry earlier this week. The aim of the study was to identify the industries best performing areas for the year ending 2008 and to also discover what areas were experiencing the greatest growth.

In the report PC Gaming Alliance found that despite contrary belief PC’s remain the world’s leading gaming platform, outperforming other consoles.

However a very large percentage of this is due to online gaming in Asia.

According to the PCGA “the annual PC market is now worth $11 billion worldwide”, more than any of the leading consoles.

The report was intended to identify the most thriving area for 2008, and found that, the market in Europe and the US was worth more than $6 billion alone.

It also found that Russia, India, Brazil, Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe were strong growth areas.

In it’s aim to identify successful areas, the report deemed that there was increased importance in online digital distribution via services, and in free games.

It came as no surprise however that one of the largest growth areas in the market, was the growth of multiplayer online games.
