Online Poker site closes
17th April, 2009
PokerRoom.com was one of the first internet gaming sites and was extremely popular in its early years.
However the online poker market grew rapidly with millions eager to play online. Operators such as PKR and Party Poker have grown to out perform early sites, using advanced software and extra features.
3D Poker is now popular and sites like PKR offer players virtual games where users can decide their physical apperance or behavior whilst playing. Older operators which have dated software have struggled to compete with new sites for several years now, and PokerRooms.com is the lastest to shut down.
Owned by the popular European betting brand Bwin, PokerRooms.com was founded in 1999.
A statement from the site said, “Well folks, after almost ten years of fun and games, it is with a heavy heart and a tear in my eye that I have to announce that this is it; as of 11:00 CET today, Tuesday the 14th of April 2009, PokerRoom.com will no longer be open for online poker.”
Players will be able to transfer their account funds over to Bwin, where they are being encouraged to play.
