Online World Cup 2010 Betting Set To Soar

It has been predicted that over £500m will be wagered on online gambling bets on this summer’s 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Latitude who came up with the predictions is a London and Cheshire based company and has predicted more than a 700% increase in online spending from punters in comparison to the previous tournament in 2006 in Germany. This is mostly due to ‘laptop loungers’ who spend their time consuming the internet whilst on a laptop watching the television.

They have predicted that England, Spain, Brazil and Argentina will be the most popular teams for England fans to bet on to win the tournament.

Alex Hoye, chief executive officer of Latitude said: “The media landscape has changed beyond all recognition since the last tournament four years ago. Football fans will even be able to watch the tournament while they are on the move with the streaming of games online which is set to encourage in-game betting to come to the fore.

“Betting firms will be competing hard for deposits from regular and first time punters during the World Cup. It will be interesting to see which free bet creative’s and novelty bets tempt gamblers as gaming firms battle it out for a share of the market.”
