Online bingo expected to grow

10th July, 2008

At this year’s Bingo Summit many experts spoke at length about the various aspects of the online-bingo industry, but none were as visionary and futurist in spirit than the comments made by the chairman of Global Betting and Gaming Consultants.

Charmain Warwick Bartlett said he believes that online-bingo games will make up a quarter of the online betting and gaming market in the world, and that we have only begun to see what’s in store for the industry.

“We estimate that by 2012 online bingo will account for 25 percent of the worldwide betting market and deliver profits in excess of $2 billion,” said Bartlett, Lead Partner and founder of Global Betting and Gaming Consultants.

The multitude of restrictions placed on land-based casino and bingo halls have increased dramatically and will continue to do so for years to come. Convenience is the selling point of online bingo and will continue making it known to players around the world.

“As broadband penetration increases, people become more conscious about the cost of driving to real-world bingo halls,” Bartlett said. “When they find that they can’t smoke when they get there, playing online bingo from home becomes more and more attractive. From a customer point of view it is a great gambling proposition at a very low cost.”

Now more than ever people in general are becoming more familiar with the internet, computers and other relatively new technology. Once bingo players realise the true potential of these tools the industry will have no other option but to expand.
