Online gambling industry able to self regulate

The main argument against the use of online gambling in the past has been the hazards for children. This is because there is potential for children to go onto gambling sites and play under their parent’s accounts.

However, internetsafety.com has developed software to eradicate this risk. The web filtering technology is the first of its kind to completely block online gambling.

The software is called, ‘BetStopper’ and is a free application which enables parents to set specific days and times that their children can access the internet.

BetStopper is currently only being offered to people in Nova Scotia, Canada due to problematic youth online gambling, with figures for regular young gamblers reaching higher than adults! If the software proves a success the company is set to extend their services to elsewhere in the world including the UK.

"In ten years of specializing in helping parents shield their children from the unsavory side of the Internet, this is the first time we have been asked to create a project specifically to address underage gambling," said Forrest Collier, CEO of Internetsafety.com.

In countries such as the USA where online gambling is a criminal offence; the software proves a problem for those lobbyists who have relied on the child gambler issue to help keep the ban. Many lawyers may now move further in their efforts to legalize the industry.
