Placing a Bet on American Idol

Millions of people around the world tune in every week to the much loved reality TV programme American Idol.
The show gives millions the opportunity to follow their dreams and become a superstar, and is one of the most watched programmes on TV.
A&R executive Simon Cowell judges the contest along with awarding winning singer Paula Abdul and producer Randy Jackson.
Currently the favourite to win the show is Adam Lambert, however it seems thousands of people are placing more than just their hopes on the outcome of the show, by betting on the winner.
According to bookmakers tens of thousands of people wager every week on, betting on, ‘Who will be voted off?’, ‘Who will give the best performance?’ and ultimately ‘who will win?’
The laws regarding online gambling in the US strongly prohibit the process of exchanging money for betting on sports and other entertainment events and unfortunately for millions of American, American Idol falls into that category.
It appears then that American Idol contestants are not the only people who are ‘in it to win it’, as the finals drawing closer betting activity will most likely increase.
