Playtech to Stay Independent

The partnership between William Hill and Playtech was announced October 2008, and the joint venture is expected to begin operating as William Hill online this year. Playtech, who provide online gaming software to clients, agreed to take a 29% stake in the new company but still insist the two parties are still totally independent.

Many industry experts believed the move would result in a conflict of interests between both groups, yet Mor Weizer, chief executive of Playtech claimed the two would remain independent and avoid clashing on decision making matters.

He said in a statement ,“They understand that we have done everything we could to avoid being involved in any operational matter and that our strategy remains the same and that we will be fully committed to them in the same way we have always been.”

“Playtech will not be involved in William Hill Online, we will not have representatives on the board, we will not make any decisions [and] will avoid taking any operational decisions to avoid any conflict of interest with our exiting licensees.

"The way we structured [the agreement] allows us to keep our position as pure software providers and we are not involved in any operational matters"
