Poker: WSOPE main event down to the final table

2nd October, 2008

ALT Text Goes Here The World Series of Poker Europe main event will play down to a winner today after the action brought the number of players down to the final nine, who will be vying for the top spot that will include a huge payday.

The player who manages to outlast the rest of the final table will be crowned the champion, be presented with the WSOP gold bracelet and awarded the £868,800 first place prize.

There are a number of big names left in the tournament , which means it could really go to anyone at this point – especially since a couple of them have over 1 million in chips. Leading the pack right now is John Juanda with 1,349,000 in chips. Another big name near the top of the leader board is “Kid Poker” Daniel Negreanu with 1,002,000. If I were a betting man I would put my money on either of these titans of poker to take down the title.

The player who would probably make the most headlines if he won this tournament is Ivan Demidov, who currently sits on 1,006,000 in chips, because he is one of the November Nine. He is set to play the WSOP main event final table next month and he is currently at the final table of the WSOPE, which basically means this kid is on top of the world right now.

This feat actually makes Demidov the first person in history to make the final table of the main event in both the WSOP and WSOPE. However, there is a lot of history to be made with this WSOPE event because it is only in its second year of running.

Either way, there will be a new WSOPE champion crowned tonight at the Casino at the Empire in Leicester Square, one of the most world-famous locations in London.
