Poker: controversial Tiffany Michelle signs with UltimateBet
30th July, 2008
Tiffany Michelle, an actress turned poker player, burst on the poker scene this year at the World Series of Poker main event when she managed to outlast all other females in the event and finish in 17th place.
Riding the momentum from the main event, it has recently been announced that Michelle has now signed with online-poker operator UltimateBet, which already has the face of female professional poker player Annie Duke.
“From Hollywood to Vegas, Tiffany Michelle is a rising star in so many extraordinary ways,” said Annie Duke, poker professional and cardroom consultant with UltimateBet. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring such a talented force on board.”
This new addition to the UltimateBet family comes after Michelle became the centre of a sponsorship controversy that came out right after she busted out of the tournament. It was reported that PokerNews had made an exclusive sponsorship deal with Michelle for the main event, but the poker player made a deal with UltimateBet during the tournament and wore their logos in addition to those of PokerNews.
“In the end, I completely stand by my decision and feel that UltimateBet was the one site that treated me with the respect and dignity deserving of someone in my stressful situation,” Michelle said. “Throughout the whole event they were insisting on wanting me to just concentrate on my play and were clear that the decision in the end was mine and I should do what I felt was best for me.”
PokerNews came out with the allegations claiming they were betrayed by the way the whole thing came out, but ultimately it pushed Michelle in the direction of UltimateBet. She can now be found playing under the name ‘Tiffany M’ and will be the centre of future promotions on the internet poker site.
