Pokies, otherwise known as slot machines are the centre of a row this week as anti gambling lobbiers fight to get the number of them reduced. Pokies are one of the most popular forms of gambling and account for a large percentage of gaming revenue for casinos.

The lobbiests are asking for a cap of 90 venues to be placed on the distribution of pokie machines. Thsi could be a $80 million loss for operators who own pokie machines.
6700 submissions were made to the council on this issue, said to be the largest number of responses on any one issue.
The decision will be made on 29 November 2007.
