Poland will move to regulate Online Gaming

17th April, 2008

Poland has announced that it will begin regulating online gaming in a bid to stimulate its flagging economy. In one of many attempts to try and reverse the mass emigration, the online gaming industry gets another boost. France is said to be considering the same, in a move which has taken far too long in the eyes of the industry.

The Deputy Finance Minister for Poland said yesterday that he believed the best way to control online gaming, including online betting/online gambling, was to set certain regulations and tax the industry. The decision from Poland follows the ruling for online gambling and poker in the Placanica case by the European Court of Justice in March. The ruling said that Italy could not use criminal law as a means to ban online gaming companies licensed in countries in the EU from taking bets in Italy.
