At the US Open yesterday, play was suspended due to sodden ground after 30 of the past 45 days in Bethpage New York saw heavy rain fall. Play was suspended after 3hrs 16mins and forecasts are not looking good for today.

If the weather forces any more interruptions, play could extend into Monday, this is usually set aside in case an 18-hole play-off is required. However, Mike Davis, senior director of rules and competitions at the United States Golf Association said that, "The USGA is firm on this; we will not determine a national champion until we play 72 holes… So if that takes us to Monday or Tuesday, whatever."

The last finish on a Monday was 1983. Tiger Woods is favourite to win the tournament with odds from Ladbrokes at 2/1.
