Remote Gambling on the Rise

Remote gambling has only been around for a few years, yet its already grown into a multi billion pound industry. Traditional offline gambling firms such Ladbrokes and Gala Coral have setup successful online sites allowing their customers to place bets and take part in games.

In the current economic recession many believed this growth would slow down significantly however a recent report by the UK Gambling commission has shown a 9.7 increase in the numbers of adults using remote gambling in the UK.

5.6% of respondents in the report said they had placed money on internet, TV or mobile betting products including, bingo, sports books, casino and poker. The year from December 2008 saw a increase of nearly 1% from the previous year.

Internet gambling was again the most popular method and mobile gaming saw a significant rise with 2.9 % have used this method. National lottery tickets were the most popular betting product brought and sports betting was the most popular activity.
