Revealing the Truth About Suicide and Gambling

6th December, 2007

Yesterday, the Quebec Court of Appeal ruled unanimously that the lottery commission will have to reveal the documents about suicides relating to excessive gambling.

Loto-Quebec is going to make all the internal reports public now, which include attempted suicide and suicide that have a very strong connection to compulsive gambling.

Anti-poverty activist Bill Clennett filed the appeal to access the information that he said was vital to be analysed and used in future research and practice.

This is what he said about it: “I think that there is a debate going on in society about the role of the state in gambling and its social impact. But that debate cannot be held properly unless all the cards are on the table."
