Schumacher leaves Formula One
11th August, 2009

Schumacher’s great return has been short lived after the announcement of his withdrawal after the German star revealed he would be unable to compete due to a neck injury that is causing continuous problems.
The revisit from the seven-time world champion driver to the track came as a great surprise to bookies and as excitement and anticipation built for his performance in his first race back on the 23rd of August, the cancellation is suspected to have cut bookies hoped bumper turnover from the interest of Schumacher.
SkyBet have refunded all Grand Prix bets on Schumacher and Dave Pilgrim from SkyBet explained: “News that Michael Schumacher will not be returning to the Ferrari seat has come as a blow not only to fans, but also to bookmakers. Interest in our Michael Schumacher specials was massive throughout the past fortnight. Punters were really getting excited at the prospect of Lewis Hamilton getting to battle the most successful man in F1 history and we expected turnover on the European Grand Prix to double as a result.
Ferrari has been anxiously trying to find someone else to replace Felipe Massa and now Schumacher. Rumours believe that Ferrari Test driver Luca Badoer is the likely candidate to join Kimi Raikkonen for the rest of the season and if this is the case, SkyBet are backing him at 25/1 to win in Valencia.
In the unlikely event that Schumacher will return to the wheel towards the end of the season would leave SkyBet backing him at 3/1 to win the Grand Prix.
