Scott Montgomery: favourite at World Series of Poker main event

4th August, 2008

Scott Montgomery favourite at World Series of Poker main event Scott Montgomery was named the poker player with the best chance to win the World Series of Poker main event by a poll administered by DuplicatePoker asking poker players who was most likely to take down poker’s biggest tournament.

The survey was given to over 1,000 poker players, and overwhelmingly nearly one third of those polled said that they believed Scott Montgomery would win the World Series of Poker main event. This is actually a rather large number considering the fact that nine players are still left competing for the top prize and that Montgomery isn’t even the chip leader.

“The most skilled poker players have the ability to effectively manage a game and rely purely on technique,” said Moshe Davidovich, COO of DuplicatePoker.com. “In this regard, Scott Montgomery stands out. And as our poll indicates, he has gained a high level of respect for his skills among poker circles.”

The current chip leader of the WSOP main event going into the final table is Dennis Phillips with 26,000,000 chips, but he only received 12% of the vote in the poll, which is most interesting because it seems like a trend that the person with the most chips going into the final table of the main event seems to come out on top more than not.

Chino Rheem, who is the most recognizable of the final nine because of his experience on the professional poker circuit and the legal troubles that have created a controversy surrounding the main event, only received 9% of the vote. This number was equal to the shortstack, the person with the least chips at the table, Kelly Kim.

Another notable mention from the poll is that Ylon Schwartz and Darus Suharto both received only 4% of the vote each.

In reality the poll doesn’t mean much because it will all be decided at the poker table, which will be played on the 9th and 10th of November and then will air on ESPN on the 11th.
