Sky Bet Open first ball market for First Ashes Test

Since news broke of Australian Bowler Bret Lee being injured and unable to play in the first test, bookies have been changing series odds for bowlers, with some changing odds on English batsman as a result.

According to multiplatform bookmaker Sky Bet, punters have been quick to take advantage of good odds on Mitchell Johnson for top Aussie wicket taker during the series, promoting them to cut the Australian fast bowler to 5/4 (from 7/4) to be the visitors’ top series bowler.

Sky Bet also have cut odds on the first test resulting in a draw11/8 from 7/4, following a flurry of bets from customers, making it the most likely outcome.

As well as shortening odds Sky Bet have also opened a new market on the first ball of the test. It is currently 12/1 that the first ball will be a wide, while a boundary off the first ball is 7/1. However Sky Bet believe a dot ball is most likely pricing the outcome at 4/9, with a wicket being priced at 25/1.

Sky Bet’s Steve Hart said: “Over the past few days England have come in for patriotic support for the first Test but with rain yesterday and today in Cardiff we‘ve since seen a deluge of bets on the draw for Wednesday’s opener. We’re also wary of the draw because of what could be a cagey first match of the series.”
