Sky Poker online qualifier impresses at WSOP

18th July, 2008

Sky Poker player Will Brewin, aka Pokerbcity, won his way to the WSOP via the “Viva Las Vegas” tournaments. His win in May bagged the 21-year-old a trip to Las Vegas with a friend, including a hotel suite for two weeks and free entry into the $10,000 WSOP main event.

He played for five days straight against the huge 6,844 player field, which included a host of the game’s big names. Going up against the likes of Phil Helmuth, Mike Matusow and Daniel Negreanu, Will managed to get all the way to 118th position, collecting over $40,000 out of the $60,000,000+ prize pool.

Commenting on the success, he said: “I can’t believe I’ve made it this far. From playing online at Sky Poker to be playing at this level against some of the world’s best players is a phenomenal opportunity and one that I have relished.

“It was sad to crash out but I started ominously when I made an attempted steal with 5-6 but ran into a monster A-K that set the trend for the day. The Poker gods were set against me and from there I just couldn’t pick up a decent hand.

“I’m not disheartened though, I’ll be back next year and hopefully get even further this time!”

Marketing executive at Sky Poker, Helen Taylor, commented: “Will did us all proud and kept defying the odds until the very end. We’ve kept a blog online so everyone can see the journey Will went through as it really is hard to believe that this was his, and our, World Series of Poker debut.”
