Spanish Betting Licences

18th February, 2008

Several companies in Spain are to be issued with betting licences. Spanish law on gambling has so far prevented companies opening betting shops in Spain and the Basque Country.

Spain are now issuing licences to ten different companies who are relishing the opportunity in a new market. Victoria, part-owned by William Hill are said to be recieving their licence in "the next few weeks" and are set to open fifty new betting shops.

Following this, Betfred have a joint share with a local Basque company as well as the joint venture between William Hill and Codere. Ladbrokes and Stan James failed to obtain a licence.
