Sport Betting leads the way for Bwin

Bwin is known as one of Europe's most popular online betting sites offering players poker, casino and sports betting products. The business announced record gross gaming revenues of €420.9m, proving how well the company had performed in 2008.
The core sports betting service grew 21.1% with gross revenues totaling €235.4m. Poker revenue increased by 14.2% reaching €94.2m.
Player acquisition also increased throughout the year with 1.1 million new real money accounts being activated.
Bwin are forecasting a strong 2009 with gross gaming revenues predicted at around €430m to €445m. Casino profits also grew by 19.5 % from €16.1m to €19.3m. These impressive results are rare at a time when many online gaming companies are struggling due to the economic climate.
Many similar businesses have reported growth in some product areas but have struggled in others. It's common belief with many in the industry that the global financial crisis will not have a major effect on online gaming, yet its a well known fact that no business is recession proof.
