Taiwan to become new Gambling hot spot?

South East Asian nation Taiwan have announced a ruling which will allow gambling businesses such as casino's and betting shops to operate in the regions off shore islands.

Currently the gaming industry in the region is relatively small however this ruling will allow casino developers to construct large gambling centers which will hopefully attract more tourism and visitors to the area.

Current gaming hot spot around the globe include Macau in China, Las Vegas Nevada US and Atlantic City in New Jersey.

The islands of Penghu have for several years struggled with few Jobs and no major industry attracting new business to the area.

Most locals favor the ruling however religious groups such as Buddhist's have been protesting outside parliament claiming the move could ruin the environment and create social problems.

With Macau currently struggling to cope with the global economic downturn it is a bold move by the Taiwan government. Asia's gambling capital have recently reported a major decrease in visitor numbers and as a result net gaming revenue has also fallen.
