Taxation expected for Turkish online Gaming Industry
14th January, 2009
Internet gaming laws differ around the world with some governments imposing strict regulations others allowing online gaming with relaxed laws and legislation.
The calls for a new tax on the gaming industry came after reports showed that gambling companies are attracting huge numbers of players and retaining many of them.
Fethi Simsek, head of the Telecommunications Directorate said in a statement, 'There are thousands of people becoming addicted to games and companies are earning profits without being taxed,'
Gambling is heavily taxed in the UK with companies having to also pay a charitable levy fund worth £5 million every year. For many in the industry the taxation's are unfair however the UK government aim to keep a strong grip on a multi billion pound industry.
In the U.S, online finical transactions to gaming sites by citizens are banned by Federal Law. This has promoted several companies to offer their services to European players and sites such as Full Tilt Poker are doing this with success.
The Turkish gaming industry should therefore count itself lucky even if their profits are taxed.
