The First 24 / 7 Casino in Scotland

Scottish casino players in Aberdeen won’t have to worry about closing time when they are on a lucky roll, as their local Gala Casino has been granted a 24 hour license by the council.

On Tuesday the licensing board met to make their decision, members backed the decision to grant a license three vote to two.

Previously the Casino opened its doors mid afternoon and then closed at 5am. However, it applied for a 24 hour license last year that would allow it to keep its doors open continuously.

The decision was met with some opposition though. The Church of Scotland is reportedly against the license, stating that the 24 hour license would put vulnerable people more at risk.

Reverend Ian Galloway said, “We’re not in favour of this license extension at all, mainly because it puts some vulnerable people in a more vulnerable position. Access to 24-hour gambling is not something we think society needs, we believe it gives out the wrong signals."

Defending the License was councilor Ronald Clark, who said, “I don’t see these extended opening hours being detrimental to the area as the casino already closes in the early hours then opens again in the afternoon. It’s unlikely that a deluge of people will take advantage of these new hours, maybe a few people coming off night shifts. The change will be minimal.”
