France takes steps to regulate online gaming
5th March, 2009

Today at 13:00 CET in Paris, a draft legislation will be published that will set out the requirements for obtaining a French gaming licence and the tax rate applicable to gaming operators.
The draft legislation will bring France’s gaming law in line with its obligations under European law by opening the country’s betting and gaming market to private competition.
After the published draft legislation is unveiled by French Budget Minister Eric Woerth, the bill will be submitted for approval by lawmakers in the summer.
It is at this time that the licencing process will also begin.
As of January 1st 2010, French citizens will legally be able to gamble online.
