Since their conception online bookies have been extremely successful. The ease of now placing a bet by anyone with an internet connection and bank account opened up the once small and contained market to millions of new customers.

Before online betting, to place money on the races or a football game, punters would have to visit their local bookie store which were often located in town and city centers.

Those living in the country or some distance from a betting shop would have to travel to a bookie store to wager money. However that was all about to change. Internet software was created which would allow bets to be taken online by players depositing money from their bank account.

Traditional high street stores instantly saw the marketing a business opportunities from opening online betting stores with many quickly designing and opening there own. Names such as Coral, Ladbrokes, William Hill and Paddy Power all moved online and began heavily advertising their new websites.

Other specialist online bookies opened such as bet365 who quickly saw the market potential of online betting. After a few years of growth the market was full of website's offering massive sports betting markets including events and tournaments taking place on the other side of the globe.

Users could simply log in on their account, deposit funds and place bets on any event at any time all from the comfort of their own home. The rest was history.

Millions in the UK now use the services of online bookies to place their football bets at the weekend or wager money or special events such as TV Shows or political out comes.

So whats the future for online betting? Well many believe the industry will move towards mobile betting, where gambling consumers can bet on events using hand held devices such as blackberry's or phones. This is an area which is certainly growing however new players are still signing up in their hundreds every day.

The online bookie industry is still in its early stages, but concepts such as live internet streaming or sports events are beginning to be introduced. Who knows, soon we could be watching Premiership games online whilst placing bets on what will happen next!

One things for certain though, the future of online betting is certainly very bright.
