The Growth of Mobile Gaming
20th May, 2009
With the mobile technology industry growing at an exponential rate due to the popularity of products such as BlackBerrys and iPhones, online gambling is going to have to change with the times. Could this mobile revolution spell the end of virtual casinos and bingo halls as we know them?
Telecoms market analysts, Juniper, have predicted the mobile gambling market to grow rapidly throughout 2010 and reach an estimated market value of up to $20 billion.
In the same way online gambling offered people the chance to gamble in the comfort of their own home, mobile gambling will give people the opportunity to play whenever and wherever they are.
Despite the predicted value of the potential industry, the market is still very much in a state of development. This is mainly due to the social haze surrounding responsible gambling and the implications of this ethical dilemma which faces the mobile operators.
If the mobile operators decide to utilize this new gambling technology it could be detrimental to their reputation if not managed carefully and sensitively.
These issues are currently providing the most prominent barrier to entry. Many companies who are yet to embrace the idea of mobile gambling are however currently going through the process of developing and testing mobile compatible software in anticipation of the industry sectors almost imminent take off.
Online gambling companies would be foolish to ignore the potential profitability and brand exposure of the market, so don’t be surprised to see the same names heading up the mobile gambling A-list.
