The Remote Gambling Industry in the UK worth 896 Million pounds

The gambling Commission have released a report this month outlining the remote gambling industry’s growth to a total of £896 Million last year.
There were several sources of information which contributed to this figure. Details were taken from sources such as gambling industry trade bodies, Her Majesty’s Revenue And Customs, Media And Sport and the Department of Culture.
Additional information was sourced from the regulatory returns that all gambling operators who are licensed must undertake and submit annually or quarterly.
The UK gambling industry turned over £84 Billion in 2006 / 2007 with a gross figure of £9.9 Billion from gambling yield – a quarter of this coming from the national lottery.
What was reported is that the number of licenses issued for remote gambling operators in 2008 had increased from 300 – 328 – the majority of these containing betting exchanges alongside pool and general betting.
The report stated that the UK remote Bingo, Casino and betting industry had over 7800 employees and over 6.2 million active customer accounts with 4.9 million new player registrations. Also, there’s said to be around 16 million users with over £257 million in their accounts.
