The Spanish government makes moves to regulate online gambling
12th February, 2009
In December 2007, The Spanish Congress of Representatives passed a bill outlining their intention to regulate and tax online casinos and online gambling. However, since then, little has been done.
The Spanish Association of Internet Bettors is curious to know why an estimated $250 million in gambling revenues is leaving the country while players still have no protection from dodgy gaming operators.
The Spanish government has decided to advance plans to install online gaming terminals in convenience stores and petrol stations across the country. This move by the government would increase the number of public outlets from 4,000 to 11,000.
Despite these government plans, the betting association predicts that it will be at least a year before any bill is passed to tax and regulate the industry.
