The bill to help Colorado gambling addicts
26th February, 2008
Colorado is getting closer to becoming 38th state with services to treat gambling addiction, after the House Bill 1314 got approved yesterday.
Taxes made from gambling revenues made from powerball, casinos and online gambling are used to fund a lot of necessary developments in infrastructure and social services. Such include road maintenance, emergency services and law enforcements.
Nevertheless, the one most logical and ethically valid investment has been undermined so far. Colorado currently has no services in place that would help people with gambling addiction. There are 37 other states and all of them have gambling addiction services, so if Colorado joins them, there will be 38 in total.
The bill will also set up grant awareness program to help the addicts.
Rep Primavera said this: "Lives are destroyed by gambling addictions. Some of the profits from gambling should be used to help people who have a problem; just like profits from cigarettes are used to help people quit smoking. Gambling problems will continue to grow with the accessibility of internet gambling and the high foreclosure rates. While gambling may sound like fun and games, it can be very destructive."
