Tiffany Michelle's historic WSOP run comes to an end
15th July, 2008
Tiffany “Hot Chips” Michelle’s Main Event journey at the World Series of Poker has come to an end, bowing out in 17th place, after making a respectable run at being only the second woman in the history of the tournament to make the final table.
Her WSOP tournament life was ended when her A-J fell victim to the pocket Aces of Peter Eastgate after the flop added another Ace to each of their hands. Michelle was awarded $334,534 for her 17th-place finish and it doesn’t look like it will be the last we’ll be seeing of her at the poker table.
“We have some deals and things in the works,” Michelle said. “This was just a starting point. I’ve always wanted an opportunity to play poker more. So I’m excited with the freedom and flexibility to do that more.”
There was extensive coverage of Michelle’s historic run throughout the media, including this site, but she said that the pressure of the situation never really got to her.
“I didn’t really think about it” Michelle said. “I never at any point wanted to let pressure come down on me. Obviously, I was feeling it, but I just didn’t embrace it. If you sit there and think about making history and things, you’re not going to play your best.”
The tournament began with 6,844 players, only 209 of which were women, and first place will be awarded $9.1 million. The action is now down to the final nine, one table, and will not continue play until November, when it will be aired on ESPN.
