Top 10 Bookies Stay The Same Despite Election Betting
5th May, 2010

Online political betting ahead of the UK general election has failed to shake up the Top 10 UK bookmakers according to an article found on eGaming review. This is despite major investment made into election coverage by operators that includes Betfair and Ladbrokes. The tables remain the same as in Match when the Cheltenham festival saw bet365 pip Betfair to the post.
Election betting has proven to be the third most popular fixture with betting on politics evenly spread amongst the top sportsbooks.
Oddschecker commercial manager Simon Miller said: “For the first 10 days of this election campaign politics betting had been as uninspiring as the parties themselves, but the TV debates changed everything. Since then the General Election ‘Most Seats’ market has been in the top 10 most viewed markets on Oddschecker, with over 180,000 page views. It is fair to say the majority of these are people window shopping rather than betting, but nonetheless we have seen several thousand bets, spread evenly amongst the bookmakers.”
Betfair has created more than 1300 election markets as part of their investment in the UK election. Their rivals, bet365 in comparison only have six general election markets and 120 constituency markets.
