Under 21 European Championships
19th June, 2009
England’s Under 21 side has made it into the semi final with a group game to spare. Going into Monday’s game against Germany after beating Spain 2-0 earlier this week, England will not need to win as they have already qualified although another win will give the squad extra confidence ahead of the Last four meeting..
According to BBC Sport, Stuart Pearce's England dominated proceeding throughout the match with two goals in six minutes sealing Spain’s fate. Both Fraizer Campbell and James Milner scored, with Milner making up for missing a penalty earlier on.
Following the win, Online Bookmakers have shortened odds on England to win the European Championships, with William Hill pricing them at 2/1 to win the tournament.
Despite being favourites to win the competition online bookies only make England slight underdogs to win against Germany on Monday. Both BetFred and Sky Bet price Germany at 2/1 while Paddy Power make England 9/4.
In an interview after the group game against Spain ocoach Pearce said, “I'm pleased we're through, but I'm not surprised because I know the character of these boys and it was a gutsy performance,"
