Unibet Chief Exec to Secure Release in Paris
30th October, 2007
Petter Nylander, the Chief Executive Officer of Sweden’s Unibet, has announced that he will travel to France tomorrow to secure his release after being arrested last week by Dutch police serving a French warrant.
Currently detained at Amsterdam's Schipol Airport, Nylander said he would go to Paris to appear before the French judge who originally issued the warrant, for violations against France's 19th Century gambling laws, concerning a monopoly.
Acting Chief Executive Officer Ragnar Hellenius said: “This is a very complicated legal process and we will, of course, follow the instructions from the authorities. We take for granted that when Petter is finally on French soil on Wednesday the judge will release him. For us, Petter’s release is most important and we are working with the authorities to facilitate this process.”
France is also expected to submit its regulatory proposals on online gaming to the European Commission by Wednesday, which will be considered to determine whether these are proportionate and non-discriminatory and comply with European Union trade regulations.
