WSOPE main event final table still running
3rd October, 2008
When there’s so much money on the line, nobody wants to get knocked out of one of the biggest poker tournaments of the year, and that’s probably why the World Series of Poker Europe main event final table ran through the night, into this morning and is still currently running.
The WSOPE £10,000 buy in no limit hold’em tournament, which began with 363 players, had a total prize pool of £3,630,000 and will eventually award the winner £868,800, in addition to the coveted WSOP gold bracelet. The winner will also be named WSOPE champion for 2008 and be forever remembered in poker history.
The final table began yesterday afternoon at 1 pm and had a few of some of the bigger names in the poker world, including Daniel Negreanu, John Juanda and Scott Fischman. Fischman busted out in sixth place when his Ace Queen lost to the flopped straight of King Queen. Negreanu went out of the tournament, not too much later, in fifth place when he pushed all in on the blinds with Ace nine and ran into pocket Jacks. The board brought nothing and he was sent to the rail.
The rest of the play has been a bit slower as players built their stacks to millions in chips. Busting out in third place was Ivan Demidov, who is a part of the November Nine in the World Series of Poker main event. He is the first player to make both the WSOP and WSOPE final tables in the same year, which really is an astonishing feat.
However, since Demidov left the tournament the action has continued on through the night and into the morning, in fact it is still running as we speak. It is currently down to a heads up battle between Stanislav Alekhin and John Juanda. It’s still anyone’s game but currently it is Alekihn with the chip lead.
