Warning Over Industry RiGT Contributions
30th October, 2007
Gala Coral's chief executive Neil Goulden has warned members of the betting industry that a lack of contributions towards the Responsibility in Gambling Trust (RiGT) could cause the government to introduce a statutory levy on the industry.
Failure to fulfil the promise of contributing £4 million to address problem gambling "would reflect badly on us as an industry" he said. Goulden also told The Times that a majority of the £1.7 million collected so far has been contributed by Ladbrokes, Gala Coral and William Hill, adding that the smaller businesses in the industry would bit hit harder and end up paying more.
He continued "We are over £2m short of the target that we set, this is unacceptable. There can be no room for complacency about problem gambling within the industry, and companies must now make their contribution."
