Maguire’s win was a fix

Fears were voiced of a first round snooker match being fixed, after a large amount of bets were placed on the outcome of the match.

Bookmakers’ suspended betting activities on the match after a flurry of bets were placed in Maguire’s favour to win the match qualifier 9-3 frames.

Suspicions were then raised after Burnett made unforced errors and seemed to have a meltdown of form mid game, missing shots and producing bad safeties. The match then ended when Burnett missed the black in the 12th frame which would have made the score line 8-4.

Both Maguire and Burnett have denied claims that any colluding has transpired or match fixing. The two Glaswegians are also good friends and sometimes practising partners.

Maguire protested his innocence saying “I heard a little bit of word there was a lot of money bet on the match, but I'm there to play snooker, I'm not there to listen to people who bet money.”

The odds for the match to end 9-3 were 6/1 at Victor Chandler who suspended betting on Friday after takes bets on the specific score line raised alarm bells.
