Who are the Caisno and Gaming bosses supporting in the U.S. election?
27th October, 2008
The outcome of the Presidential election will affect us all, and many large Casino bosses have donated funding to the John McCain campaign. The election, which takes place in a couple of weeks, will define the future of millions around the globe and will be closely followed by many.
Both candidates, Obama and McCain, have received funding from Casino and gaming bosses however the Republican party have received considerably more. MGM Mirage chief executive, Terry Lanni has donated a massive $500,000 to McCain, as well as Steve Wynn raising $250,000 and $500,000 for the senator.
Erik Herzik, a political professor and the University of Nevada said, "This shouldn't be too much of a surprise," "Individual casino operators provide money based on their own ideological and political interest. Big business tends to lean Republican."
Frank Fahrenkopf, Chairman of the American Gaming Association said, "Both of them, throughout the campaign, have been very articulate about state's rights on a number of issues, including gaming."
Whatever the outcome of the election both candidates will have to deal with the mounting pressure to legalize online gaming, especially poker.
