William Hill To Launch Apple iPhone Betting App
26th May, 2010

William Hill has sent an application to Apple for a World cup predictor app which will allow cash bets. Rivals Ladbrokes are just weeks behind and Bwin also have plans to apply for an app according to eGaming Review.
The application made by William Hill for an app that would allow customers to make cash bets was submitted to the electronics giant on 18th May with Ladbrokes not yet submitting an application, but hoping to launch their app before the 11th June before the start of the football world cup tournament.
Ladbrokes’ remote gaming head John O’Reilly said: “It’s one thing having a web application, another thing having one through the iPhone Store – it has a different functionality. Our web app is popular with our customers, but launching an application through the Store is a whole different kind of market and customer base.”
The applications follow a turnaround on gambling apps as they were once forbidden by Apple, but they have recently allowed operators such as Betfair and Australian Tote betting business Tabcorp to launch gambling apps.
Bwin hopes to launch an iPhone app soon after the World Cup, product management Tomer Katz revealed. Katz said: “Right now we are working on a live betting App for the iPhone that still has to go through Apple´s App Store approval process".
Paddy Power is also considering the move. Darren Lovern said: “We’re definitely thinking about it, ideally before the World Cup. There can be problems getting the application through [Apple]”.
