William Hill set their sights on India

Online gaming operators are looking to obtain the necessary licenses in order to launch their services in India. A total of 13 companies are after the three vital licenses which would allow them to offer their services in that country in time for the 2010 world cup.

Uk teams are already starting to speak with potential business partners in India in order to set up shop as soon as possible, as under Indian law, operators must be in partnership with domestic companies in order to offer their gaming services. William Hill has been talking to Sikkim firm Global Torrent International whilst Betfair have been in talks with Agilisys Managed Services.

Companies who are successful in their bidding will be able to promote their services in Sikkim and are allowed access to take bets from across India. Sikkim has a population of only 600,000 but India has managed to push past the 1.2 billion population mark, so when revenue from Sikkim starts to increase it is expected that other states will also follow suit and do the same.

The pass of this new law will prove to be interesting as the only legal betting opportunities allowed in India currently is horse race betting as well as casino in Goa and Sikkim.
